Make Someone Smile – Ask for a Million Dollars. . .

The following is a true story of how a coworker made someone smile – actually made a bunch of people smile. The names changed to protect the forgetful, distracted and guilty.

I work for a local charity. Sometimes we get cash donations (some people don’t use checks or credit cards). Checks and credit cards can be deposited electronically, but for cash we have to send someone to the bank to deposit it. There is only a small group of people allowed to do this, a group of responsible, authorized employees. . .

Yesterday the finance coordinator, Lois, filled out the deposit slip. She gave it to the director, Susan, who was going to the bank anyways. Lois attached a sticky note reminding Susan to get additional deposit slips.

Susan gave the teller the deposit slip, forgetting the sticky note was attached. . . Then she went back to checking things on her smart phone. The teller said “would you like more deposit slips” and had a weird look on her face. Susan said yes and wondered how  could she possibly know?

Below is a picture of the sticky note. . .

So Susan inadvertently almost held up a bank – from the drive through line – with a sticky note – and no gun. When Susan opened her envelope of deposit slips and the note still there – she finally saw it and had a good laugh. When she told us here at the office – needless to say there was plenty of laughter and smiles. . . She definitely made someone smile    Everyone but the teller. . .

(luckily the teller didn’t set off the silent alarm nor take it seriously)
